It is often referred to as serinol. Serine alcohol is chemically stable, corrosive, hygroscopic and water-soluble. Natural serinol was first discovered during the synthesis of long helmsporine toxin by the sugarcane eye spot. Later, the presence of natural serinol was also found in the synthesis of rhizobia toxin by prokaryotes such as the plant pathogen Burkholderia musterba, Bradyrhizobiumjaponicum and Bradyrhizobiumelkanii.
