New California Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order directing state officials to create a single-purchaser system for prescription drugs, as reported NASDAQ Tuesday.
Under the system, which would be the nation's largest such system, the state's Medicaid programme will negotiate prescription drug prices for all of the state's 13 million recipients.
The order additionally started the process of permitting private companies and other governmental agencies to negotiate drug prices with drugmakers.
