
Composition:
Procaine penicillin 200,000IU/ml.
Dihydrostreptomycin sulfate 250mg/ml.
Description:
Penstrypt 20/25 is provided as a white or off white suspension.
Pharmacological action
The combination of Procaine penicillin and Dihydrostreptomycin sulfate acts additively and in some cases synergistically.
Procaine penicillin is a small spectrum penicillin with bactericidal action against mainly gram positive bacteria like campylobacter, clostridium, corynebacterium, Erysipelothrix, Haemophilux, Listeria, Pencillinase negative staphylococcus and streptococcus spp.
Dihydrostreptomycin is an aminoglycoside with a bactericidal action against mainly gram negative bacteria like E.coli, Klebsiella, pasteurella, salmonella and staphylococcus spp.
Indication:
Arthritis, mastitis and gastro intestinal, respiratory and urinary tract infection caused by penicillin and Dihydrostreptomycin sensitive micro-organism like campylocacter, clostridium, corynebacterium, E.coli, Erysipelothrix, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, Listeria, pasteurella, slamonella and staphylococcus spp. in calves, cattle, goat, sheep.
Contra indication, warning, etc.
Hypersensitivity to penicillin, procaine and aminoglycosides
Administration to animals with a serious impaired renal function.
Concurrent administration with tetracycline, chloramphenicol, macrolides and Licosamides.
Penstrypt is contra indicated I known cases of hypersensitivity to penicillin.
Side effects
May result in abortion in sows, ototoxicity, neurotoxicity, allergic reactions.
May appear in sensitized animals and they should be treated antihistaminics and/or corticosteroids.
Dosage and administration
By intramuscular injection. Never intravenously. Shake well before use.
Cattle, horse: 1mg/20kg b.w daily for 3-5days.
Sheep, goat, pigs: 1ml/20kg b.w daily for 3-5days.
Yong animal dosage 50% higher.
Over dose
Tinnitus, amblyacousia, central nervous system adverse effect, etc systematic treatment.
