About The Detailed Introduction Of Vitamin B12?
Bulk Vitamin B12 Powder, referred to as VB12, also known as cobalamin, is one of the B vitamins. It is a type of cobalt-containing corrin-type complex organic compound. The trivalent cobalt contained is located in the center of the corrin ring plane similar to porphyrin. It is the largest and most complex vitamin molecule discovered so far, and it is also the only vitamin containing metal ions. Its crystals are red, so it is also called red vitamin. Plants do not contain VB12 and cannot produce VB12. Methylcobalamin and cobalamin act as cofactors for enzymes that are converted by the body into their biologically active forms. Severe deficiency can lead to megaloblastic anemia and/or nerve damage. The discovery of vitamin B12 should first be attributed to the research work conducted in the treatment of a pernicious anemia named after the British physician Addison. Pernicious anemia was an incurable disease at the time. In 1926, Minot and Murphy discovered that the disease could be cured by ingesting large amounts of raw liver, for which they won the 1934 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Following Minot and Murphy's discoveries, pernicious anemia was successfully cured with liver concentrates. In 1948, Riches from the United States, Smith and Parker from the United Kingdom, and others respectively isolated a red crystal from liver concentrate and named it vitamin B12. In the same year, R. West of Columbia University in the United States confirmed that pernicious anemia can be effectively treated by injecting vitamin B12. Then in 1955, D. Hodgkin and others used X-ray analysis to determine the crystal structure of vitamin B12. He also won the 1964 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. In 1972, Woodward successfully completed the total synthesis of vitamin B12.
