The chemical formula of ammonium iodide is NH4I. It is colorless crystal or granule at room temperature. Soluble in water, acetic acid, ammonia, soluble in ethanol, acetone; slightly soluble in ether. Sublimation of ammonium iodide after heating, the gas will appear yellow and brown when exposed to light and air.
Iodine and red phosphorus are added to a reactor containing water, and the reaction is carried out under stirring. After carefully filtering the reaction solution, distillation is carried out to collect a fraction of 125 to 130 ° C to obtain hydroiodic acid. When the ammonia gas is completely neutralized to a pH of 8 to 9, the ammonia gas is stopped. After filtering the solution, it was vacuum evaporated in a water bath until most of the crystals were precipitated. After cooling, centrifuging, drying at 50-60 ° C, the finished ammonium iodide is obtained.
